The Power of Sound
In the Old Testament Book of Joshua (chap. 1 – 6), a detailed description is given of the destruction of the walls of Jericho. Joshua, with the help of his priests and people, marched around the walls of the ancient city of Jericho for seven days and on the seventh day, after the priests sounded their trumpets, the people shouted with a great sound and the wall fell down flat. The Egyptians believed that sound was the basis of creation; their most sacred ceremonies, the mystery of mysteries, used sound frequencies to create a connection between the earth’s center and the pole star of the heavens.
In the book Healing and Regeneration Through Color by Corinne Heline (1975), the first chapter starts with a quote: “Rhythmic motion is the second syllable of the Creative Word; the first is light and the third is Color.” With the normal human physical vision we can discern seven visible colors, although science can readily access the ultraviolet and infrared rays, which go on ad infinitum. Laboratory tests prove that there is energy in color which affects health, comfort, happiness and safety. Color in the form of light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Light is one of its many octaves; others are cosmic rays, gamma rays, x-rays, ultra-violet and infrared rays, radio and television rays, all possessing energy. Science has established that all electro-magnetic waves are identical except in wavelength and frequency. Each color has a definite wavelength, from 1/16 to 1/32 millionth of an inch and therefore varies in frequency and impact force. Its amplitude controls the value of each hue and lighter values having greater amplitude than dark values.
The author agrees with other authorities on color psychology that the use of color affects our mental and emotional well being through the impact of color frequency and thereby creates either ease or stress in ones physical body. She relates from the Indian creation myth that the color of Brahma is red as blood, of Vishnu, blue as the heavens and he sea, and Shiva, white as the ashes of the dead who are ever burned in his honor. Each planet and astrological sign is vibrating to a specific color which has many hues or sub-frequencies. She states:It is well to be surrounded by the color to which ones soul responds or for which one feels a need in his development. Regardless of outside environment, the soul can always touch color vibration by lifting itself in communion and prayer. Bathing in the golden radiance of the Christ Light or submerging oneself in azure harmonies are not mere poetic fancies. They are glorious and divine techniques for acquiring power, understanding and beauty. They serve to further spiritual growth and to assist in the rehabilitation of the individual, thus of the world.
Corrine Heline explains her view of color assignment to the red fire as the singular phase of God in manifestation, His infinite power expressing an ever-ascending spiral of color and tone. His power is made manifest by means of the sevenfold scale in both color and tone. In the ascension of sound the red of terrestrial fire is transmuted into the golden yellow of pure spirit essence. Gold is the physical symbolic expression of this process which the ancient alchemists tried to demonstrate in the transmutation of base metals into non-corruptible gold.
The list all of the various correlations of sound and color which are synonymous terms for one and the same frequency would be too lengthy at this point and will be dealt with in another chapter.
