Fear of Driving

This young, self-sufficient, intelligent, professionally successful female had suffered for many yeas from unexplainable terror and fear of getting into an accident when driving or even being a passenger in a vehicle which severely impacted her quality of life. In addition she was dissatisfied with her work and relationships, and suffered from crippling headaches which had defied medical treatment and allergy tests. As a last resort she decided to explore past life therapy. She described her physical symptoms as follows: whenever she would approach an intersection, being the driver or passenger, her heartbeat would quicken, her hands became sweaty and her head would feel like “in between stations” unable to concentrate, her whole body would shake with fear of an impeding accident.

Having ensured that my client was comfortable I asked her to concentrate on the fear feeling of driving and having an accident. She immediately started to experience physical symptoms of an oncoming heart attack, with rapid heartbeat, pain in the chest and left arm. Her physical symptoms were so real, I had to calm and assure her that she is living proof today of having survived a past live event that triggered her problems in this her current life.

This made sense to her, trusting in my guidance she immediately moved directly into a scene she described as being in a stream of white light and feeling peaceful and good. She told me that she was floating and observed on the ground the body of a man slumped over at the steering wheel of a car, he had a heart attack and died. After having experienced the peacefulness of her death, she was prepared to re-experience that particular past life without fear of dying.

Interestingly, but not surprising, the issue of relationships and work were prime themes in her past life experience. She found herself in a male body with a wife and little daughter. The man felt totally helpless due to work pressure, his inability to effectively interact with life within his work milieu, and without an outlet for his emotional energy. Having continuously suppressed his emotions and feelings of frustration, he felt the need to dominate his family and home life.

One evening, during a violent argument with his wife, he struck her.  This unexpected brutal outburst of energy came as a total surprise to him. He made an important decision then and there to “never, ever hurt anyone.”  His guilt feelings and regrets of his conduct at home, the ongoing pressure at work and related stress, even though he was a very successful stockbroker, drove him to make a decision to find an easy way out and die, a heart attack would be painless. One morning while driving to work, he felt a heart attack coming on, he managed to move over to the curb of the road. He died without hurting anybody.

Usually, at that point in a session we consciously integrate and release decisions made which no longer serve the individual and resolve the past life experience. This client was not ready she enthusiastically said there were more past lives where she died in car accidents. I encouraged her to move into her next experience. Immediately she accessed another past life in which she experienced being thrown out through a windshield of a car.  She described the incident as screaming, screeching traffic noise, cars sounding horns, weaving in and out of lanes, blood all over.  She was out of control, having drunk too much. With her last breath, before leaving her body she decided: “I should not be on the road.”

This particular sentence was the exact phrase my client used during the initial interview when I asked her to describe her feelings and connected script with her fear of driving.
Having consciously re-experienced the causes of her previous unexplained fear of driving, experiencing physical and emotional symptoms of a heart attack, she finally could understand and integrate, release and resolve her past life's trauma, guilt feelings and decisions made which triggered her unexplainable fear of driving, crippling headaches, relationship and work problems in this life. During the next few sessions we cleared and resolved her work and relationship issues.
